Coffee Plant ‘Coffea arabica’ — a touch of the tropics and future coffee cherries at home
With its glossy emerald leaves, graceful growth habit, and fragrant white blooms, the Coffee Plant ‘Coffea arabica’ brings a soft tropical charm indoors. This compact evergreen shrub is best known as the species behind traditional Arabica coffee, producing small white flowers in spring followed by bright cherries that slowly ripen from green to deep black. Even if you never harvest beans, the lush foliage alone makes this plant a beautiful accent in any home.

Botanically known as Coffea arabica, this species originates from the cool mountain forests of East Africa. Indoors, it typically grows to a manageable size, though in nature it can reach 6–15 feet. Its smooth branches hold pairs of thick, shiny leaves that stay vibrant year-round, creating a rich, layered look. Mature plants may produce clusters of sweetly scented blossoms and ornamental berries — a charming reminder of their tropical heritage.

Care & Growing Tips
Place your Coffee Plant in bright, indirect light — near an east or west window is ideal. Direct sun can scorch leaves, while low light slows growth. Plant in well-draining, slightly acidic soil enriched with organic matter. Keep the soil evenly moist, watering when the top portion begins to dry; never allow it to fully dry out or sit soggy. Indoors, average humidity works, though higher humidity keeps foliage lush — bathrooms or pebble trays help. Maintain 65–80°F (18–26°C) and avoid cold drafts. Feed monthly in spring and summer with a diluted liquid fertilizer. Light pruning in spring encourages a full, bushy shape.

Coffee plants make elegant indoor focal pieces, pair beautifully with ferns, palms, and other tropical foliage, and add a serene natural feel to living rooms, kitchens, and offices.
