Ficus Ruby (Ficus elastica Ruby)

Ficus Ruby is a vibrant and expressive houseplant that brings warmth and energy to any room. Its broad, glossy leaves shimmer in tones of green, cream, and soft pink — a natural artwork that instantly lifts the mood of a space. Native to the tropical regions of India and Malaysia, this variegated rubber plant combines beauty with durability, making it a timeless favorite for both new and experienced plant lovers.

Description and Growth
Ficus Ruby (Ficus elastica Ruby) belongs to the rubber tree family and is prized for its thick, leathery foliage with a distinctive ruby-pink hue. Mature plants can reach 2–3 feet indoors, creating an elegant vertical accent in living rooms, offices, or hallways. Unlike plain green varieties, the lighter parts of Ruby’s leaves do not photosynthesize, so it needs a bit more light to maintain its vivid color and healthy growth.

Light and Care
Place your Ficus Ruby in a spot with bright, indirect light. A few hours of gentle morning or late-afternoon sun are beneficial, but harsh midday rays can scorch the leaves. East- or west-facing windows are ideal. Rotate the pot every few weeks to ensure even growth and prevent the plant from leaning toward the light.

Water moderately — usually once every 1–2 weeks — allowing the top inch of soil to dry between waterings. Overwatering is the most common issue, so always check soil moisture before adding more water. In winter, reduce watering frequency. The plant enjoys regular misting, which helps maintain humidity and keeps the leaves glossy and clean. Wipe the foliage gently to remove dust and check for pests underneath the leaves.

Landscape and Interior Use
Ficus Ruby looks stunning as a standalone accent in modern interiors or grouped with other tropical plants for a lush, layered effect. It complements neutral tones, wooden textures, and minimalist spaces beautifully.

Additional Notes
This variety is forgiving and resilient — an excellent choice for those seeking low-maintenance greenery that also improves indoor air quality.
