Ficus lyrata ‘Bambino’ — A Compact Touch of Tropical Elegance
The Ficus lyrata ‘Bambino’, also known as the Dwarf Fiddle Leaf Fig, brings the sculptural beauty of its larger cousin into a more manageable, compact form. With its glossy, violin-shaped leaves and upright growth habit, this plant adds a sophisticated tropical accent to any indoor space. Unlike the traditional fiddle leaf fig, the Bambino variety keeps its foliage smaller and denser, making it ideal for desks, countertops, or cozy corners.
Appearance and Growth
The Bambino features thick, leathery leaves with prominent lighter veins and a rich green hue. Its compact, columnar form allows it to grow vertically without spreading too wide — typically reaching about 2–3 feet tall indoors. This structure gives it a tidy, modern look that complements both minimalistic and lush plant arrangements.
Light & Placement
For best results, place your Bambino in bright, indirect light. It can tolerate moderate shade, though leaf color and growth may be less vibrant. Avoid direct sunlight, which can cause leaf burn. In homes with limited natural light, filtered LED grow lights can support steady growth.
Water & Soil
Keep the soil evenly moist but never soggy. Allow the top 2 inches of soil to dry between waterings. Overwatering can lead to root rot and fungus gnats, so ensure good drainage. Use filtered or distilled water if your tap water leaves mineral spots on the foliage.
Humidity & Temperature
Ficus lyrata ‘Bambino’ appreciates average to high humidity. Light misting or a nearby humidifier helps during dry winter months. Ideal temperatures range between 50–85°F, and it’s best to avoid cold drafts or sudden temperature changes.
Care & Maintenance
Feed monthly during spring and summer with a balanced liquid fertilizer at half strength. Prune occasionally to maintain shape and remove old or damaged leaves. Propagation is possible through stem cuttings. Watch for pests like spider mites or mealybugs, especially in dry air.
Toxicity & Notes
Like most figs, Bambino’s sap can irritate skin and is toxic to pets and humans if ingested. Handle with care and keep out of reach of animals and children.
