Dracaena marginata ‘Kiwi’ — a burst of tropical color and calm elegance
Dracaena marginata ‘Kiwi’, often called the Kiwi Dragon Tree, brings a vivid touch of the tropics into any indoor space. With its long, sword-shaped leaves streaked in fresh shades of green, lemon-yellow, and creamy white, this plant adds both structure and color to your home décor. Native to warm, humid regions, Dracaena ‘Kiwi’ grows upright and gracefully, creating a refined silhouette that fits effortlessly into modern and classic interiors alike.
This slow-growing ornamental plant typically reaches 3 to 5 feet in height indoors, forming slender gray stems crowned with vibrant foliage. Its compact form makes it perfect for living rooms, offices, or bright hallways, where it can stand as a focal point or complement a lush indoor collection.
Care and Growing Tips
Dracaena marginata ‘Kiwi’ thrives in bright, indirect sunlight. It can tolerate moderate shade, but strong direct rays may scorch the leaves. Rotate the pot every few weeks to encourage balanced growth and prevent leaning toward the light.
Allow the top 1–2 inches of soil to dry before watering again. Overwatering is the most common cause of stress—well-draining soil and a pot with drainage holes are essential. During winter, reduce watering frequency as the plant’s growth naturally slows.
Maintain a comfortable room temperature between 65–75°F (18–24°C). Avoid cold drafts or heat vents, which can dry out leaf tips. Dracaena ‘Kiwi’ adapts well to average indoor humidity but appreciates occasional misting, especially in dry climates.
Feed your plant once every 3–4 weeks during spring and summer with a diluted, balanced liquid fertilizer. Wipe leaves gently with a soft cloth to remove dust and help them breathe. Light pruning can remove older yellowing leaves and maintain the plant’s elegant shape.
Landscape and Interior Use
Dracaena ‘Kiwi’ pairs beautifully with other tropical houseplants such as pothos, peace lilies, and ferns. Its upright habit makes it ideal for corners, entranceways, or as a statement accent in minimalist interiors.
Toxicity
Like other dragon trees, Dracaena ‘Kiwi’ is toxic to pets if ingested, though it poses no risk when simply displayed indoors. Keep it out of reach of cats, dogs, and small children.
